New business development and all that jazz!
We were travelling to the offices of one our FTSE Top 100 clients to present to the UK MD our new business development programme and facilitating tool kit called Omnia.
One of the team had been reading Ted Gioia’s, magnificent work, “History of Jazz”. This seminal work tracks jazz, probably the most colourful and varied art form in the world and its birth in one of the most colourful and varied cities, New Orleans. From the seed first planted by slave dances held in Congo Square and nurtured by early ensembles, it tracks jazz and its long winding odyssey across America and around the world.
One of Gioia’s key premises is that jazz came about through the process of “syncretism”. Syncretism is a union or attempted fusion of different religions, cultures, or philosophies (honestly, we had to look it up!). His point is that jazz was not a simple blend of African rhythms reaching the American continent but a complex blend of these, combined with the European classical tradition through the Creole route and the Latin sounds from South America thrust together in the socio- demographic milieu of New Orleans.
So this fusion theme of “syncretism” became the theme of our presentation.
Our new business development approach and the facilitating technology, Omnia, that supports its delivery has come about through a not dissimilar process of “syncretism”.
We were challenged last year by one of our clients to produce a “best in class” new business development and lead generation programme. Omnia was the result. To make it clear Broadley Speaking had not suddenly strayed from its course as a leading business development agency and into the software development business! Our own process of ‘syncretism’ was about the union and fusion of different sales and marketing cultures and philosophies and how we went about testing, blending and complementing them to produce a best of breed solution. A solution that allowed us to blend our professional sales and brand advocacy skills, with the full armoury of push and pull sales and marketing tools.
It is fortunate that we have nearly two decades of experience of undertaking new business development work on behalf of B2B businesses. During that time we have worked with some of the best marketing and sales teams in the UK and tried and tested just about every marketing tool and programme used in the B2B environment.
Even further back than that, the principals of Broadley Speaking can also sensibly claim to have designed and delivered some of the earliest manifestations of new media marketing – when ‘new media’ really was new!
Our approach, and the Omnia delivery and reporting tool that supports its delivery, is merely a synthesis of all these experiences and influences.
The response from clients has been phenomenal – “best in class”, “outstanding” and “game changing”
