For my sins I have signed up for a fire walk in aid of charity on the evening of Friday 20th December in the town square in Tavistock.
The challenge is simple – a bare foot walk over red hot wood embers measuring around 800 degrees. No tricks, no special effects. Just me and the fire. Easy !!!
Overcoming fear is at the centre of the challenge – the fear caused by the feeling of intense heat on the face at the edge of the fire pit. The decision to walk means I will have consciously decided not to let this fear inhibit my actions. The theory is that once you take the power away from fear, there is really nothing stopping you !
We apply this sort of positive mental attitude everyday to achieving our clients new business development goals so we though this sort of caper fits quite nicely !
Who’s it for ?
I am undertaking the challenge to raise funds for ROC ( Robert Owen Communities). The charity supports people with learning disabilities in community based services in Devon and Cornwall.
ROC supports 500 people, focused on care and support, education and training, accommodation and personalisation for all.
ROC Welcome Tavistock social club is a key part of community life for 60 local people with learning disabilities.
ROC Welcome Tavistock is not commissioned by the Local Authority funding and there are no other comparable facilities. You can find out about ROC’s work here.
We think it’s a really good cause and we would be delighted if you could help us support it.
What can you do to help ?
Sponsorship please ! My online donation form is here – please give generously
The last time we got involved in a big sponsored event, through our team, friends and clients we raised over £2000 for the Macmillan Cancer appeal for our abseil down Plymouth Civic Centre, so it would be absolutely brilliant to beat that.
