Fast Track IIP award for telemarketing company

Fast Track IIP award for telemarketing to Broadley Speaking

Broadley Speaking Ltd, the fast growing Devon-based sales and telemarketing company, which employs 20 staff at its office in West Street, Tavistock, has achieved `fast track` recognition as an Investor in People.

Founded by Hilary Broadley as a home-based telemarketing business in 1997, the firm has achieved considerable growth, delivering ‘business to business’ telesales and telemarketing services in industries that include insurance, IT, health and environment. An expanding national client base ranges from an American-owned insurance group to start-up businesses in the West Country.

With so many good practices already in place, Broadley Speaking was able to commit to the Investors in People Standard under the ‘Assessment First’ option. The company achieved recognition almost immediately.

Hilary Broadley says: “We met a Business Link adviser who put us in touch with an assessor who told us that our company had totally ‘absorbed’ Investors in People. From our perspective, the whole process was totally painless and it was great to know that what we were doing complied with such a rigorous national standard.

“For us, Investors in People is ongoing. Our Business Link adviser is coming to see us again very soon to talk about other ways of taking the company forward and to offer further help and support.”

‘Investing in people’ has brought considerable business benefits to the Devon Company. Broadley Speaking continues to achieve 40% annual growth, with the majority of new work coming through ‘word of mouth’ recommendation.

The philosophy of encouraging staff to reach their potential has helped the company to build a strong, confident team.

“We recruit people with the right attitude and aptitude and with business background,” Hilary Broadley says.

“We then train them in telemarketing and sales skills and, as the business has become more profitable, we have re-invested in internal training in topics such as assertiveness, team building and written communication skills. You cannot achieve our kind of growth unless you develop your team – and Investors in People is part of this process.”

In Devon and Cornwall, Investors in People for all organisations is supported by Business Link for Devon and Cornwall who can be contacted on 0845 6009966.
